Vicky Ries Jennings

December 15, 1950 - October 8, 2020

Victoria R. (Vicky) Jennings, of Edmond, Oklahoma, died October 8, 2020. She completed her life’s journey at home, with her family gathered around her. She took her last breath in the arms of her loving husband, James A. (Jim) Jennings, III.Born December 15, 1950, in Norman, Oklahoma, Vicky was the daughter of Dr. Edward R. Ries and Amelia Capshaw Ries. She graduated from Norman High School in 1969 and earned her B.S. in nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 1976. Always nurturing and kind, blessed with delicate hands and a tender touch, she worked for years as a registered nurse and Prepared Childbirth instructor. Later, she answered the call of her heart to be a fulltime mother and homemaker. Vicky and Jim married on July 12, 1974. They remained dedicated to each other for 46 years. Vicky was the mother of three fine children and grandmother of eight grandchildren, who knew her as Grammy. She was the heart and soul of her family, a beacon of light and hope for all. Preceded in death by her parents, Vicky is survived by her husband, Jim; her ever faithful and caring sister, Dr. Rosemary Zellmer, of Dallas, Texas; her daughter Devon Rosenberg, of Oklahoma City; her son, Andrew Jennings, of Oklahoma City, and her daughter Julie Brooks, of Scottsdale, Arizona. She also leaves behind grandchildren India Rosenberg, James Rosenberg, Juliette Rosenberg, Klaire Jennings, Brooks Jennings, Barrett Jennings, Sebastian Brooks and Evie Rose Brooks. Possessed of a gracious and giving spirit, Vicky had many dear friends and enjoyed years of fellowship with them in civic clubs and Bible studies. An avid reader and a lover of beautiful things, she could quote poetry and long passages of scripture. The margins of virtually every page of her Bible are filled with handwritten notes. She loved the Lord. Jim always said of Vicky that she was the finest person he’d ever known and some of God’s best work. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her. The pain in their broken hearts is eased only by knowing the joy she surely felt at going home. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Crossings Community Church, located at 14600 N. Portland Ave., Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Vicky’s name to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
